A&J’s Lambeth Treasures at the Royal Festival Hall

A&J were kindly asked to included a number of outputs from our workshop on Lower Marsh in an exhibition named ‘Lambeth Treasures’ at the Royal Festival hall, as part of this summer’s Festival of Neighbourhood.

The exhibition is being held between 1 June – 8 September in the Spirit Level of Royal Festival Hall. Created in collaboration with The Building Exploratory, the exhibition will celebrate Lambeth and the it’s local communities and tell the story of the area and celebrate its heritage through archive material, commissioned artworks, objects and installations.

The exhibition charts the colourful history of Lambeth, from 2,000 years ago as an uninhabitable marsh, to the heart of London’s entertainment scene in the 17th century and its transformation in the 19th century with the dawn of the railway, into a successful industrial centre before much of the area was bombed during the Second World War.

Why not pop along and have a look for yourself.

Installation of Bird Boxes, Bug Houses and Lower Marsh Signage

The A&J team spent a couple busy days down on Lower Marsh last week. Installing the outputs from our micro-manufacturing workshop, designed and made by local people and participants of the workshops.

Bird box install

Bird boxes have been installed on buildings down Lower Marsh

The bird boxes have been installed on buildings all the way down the street, in Granby Place, just behind the Camel & Artichoke Public House and on trees in Archbishops Park.

We also installed some in the garden of Waterloo Action Centre, at the top of the street, along with some bug houses, that we hope make nice new homes for local insects!

Bug Houses went up in WAC and Archbishops Park

These outputs compliment the planters that have already popped up on the street, outside local businesses.

As well as the bird boxes, bug houses and planters, we also installed a number signage panels that have gone up right outside Waterloo Station.  Hopefully these will encourage visitors to go down to Lower Marsh, to support local businesses and increase footfall, on one of London last truly independent streets.

Lower Marsh Signage

The new signage for Lower Marsh was installed outside Waterloo Station

The A&J team would like to thank everyone who helped make the install possible, as well as all the people who took part in A&J on Lower Marsh, helping to design and build the various outputs. We hope you all enjoy them and they go some way to enhancing the local environment.

A full listing of outputs and installation site will appear on this website shortly.

We hope to announce the next location of our A&J workshop very shortly, keep an eye on our website for more details.

London’s Biggest Advent Calendar

Assemble & Join, Waterloo Quarter and the shops & stalls of Lower Marsh launch London’s biggest advent calendar.

A&J advent trees, will be popping up on Lower Marsh throughout December

This festive season Assemble & Join are working with Waterloo Quarter and the shopkeepers and market stall holders of Lower Marsh to create London’s biggest Advent Calendar. Twenty local business will be a ‘door’ to the calendar for each of the shopping days between now and Christmas, transforming the entire street into one big advent calendar. A&J have collaboratively manufactured a bespoke Christmas tree for each participating business, and every tree will be decorated to resemble the products and produce offered in the respective shops and stalls taking part. There will also be special offers at each business on their selected day of advent.

Lower Marsh prides itself on its independence (and rightly so), so why not head down to London’s biggest advent calendar and find something different for your friends and loved ones this Christmas.

The advent calendar is just one of many ways that Assemble and Join are working with local residents, businesses and groups to collectively take charge of change and improvements to the local area.

5th - Body Station
